Its entertaining storyline follows an alien girl who becomes stranded on Earth and unexpectedly falls in love with a human businessman. With funny misunderstandings, supernatural abilities, emotional moments, and romantic chemistry, the series offers an enjoyable experience for fans of Chinese dramas.

The first season premiered on 19 August 2019, while its second season arrived on 16 September 2022. Together, the two seasons contain 58 episodes, making the story a complete romantic fantasy journey.

Story and Plot

The story of My Girlfriend Is an Alien begins with Chai Xiaoqi, an alien girl from a distant planet called Cape Town Planet. During an unexpected incident, she becomes stranded on Earth and loses the communication device that could help her return home. Suddenly surrounded by unfamiliar people, technology, and customs, she must find a way to survive in a world completely different from her own.

Her journey takes an interesting turn when she meets Fang Leng, a successful and wealthy businessman. He is intelligent, serious, and often emotionally distant. However, he has a strange condition: whenever it rains, he forgets women he has encountered. This unusual problem becomes an important part of the drama’s romantic and comedic storyline.

Chai Xiaoqi discovers that Earth is full of confusing situations, but her alien abilities help her deal with many unexpected problems. She also experiences unusual reactions to certain human hormones, creating several humorous moments throughout the series.

As she spends more time with Fang Leng, their relationship slowly changes. What begins as an unusual encounter develops into a meaningful connection. Despite their differences, they gradually understand each other’s feelings and personalities.

However, their relationship is not always simple. Other characters become involved, misunderstandings create emotional complications, and Chai Xiaoqi must balance her feelings for Fang Leng with her original mission of returning to her home planet.

The drama combines romance with fantasy elements while exploring trust, friendship, loyalty, and the meaning of belonging.

Cast and Characters

Wan Peng plays Chai Xiaoqi, the alien girl at the centre of the story. Her character is cheerful, curious, and unfamiliar with many human traditions. Wan Peng brings a lively personality to the role and helps make Chai Xiaoqi one of the most memorable parts of the series.

Bie Thassapak Hsu plays Fang Leng, a wealthy businessman whose unusual memory condition creates many complications. His serious personality contrasts with Chai Xiaoqi’s playful nature, creating much of the drama’s humour and romantic appeal.

Yang Yue appears as Jiang Xue, an important supporting character whose presence adds further relationship complications. Wang Youjun plays Fang Lie, another character connected to Fang Leng’s family and personal life.

Alina Zhang appears as Sister Chai, who becomes an important person in Chai Xiaoqi’s life on Earth. Ashin Shu also appears as Doctor Zhang, while other supporting performers help develop the wider story.

The chemistry between Wan Peng and Bie Thassapak Hsu is one of the major attractions of the series. Their contrasting characters create entertaining situations and emotional moments throughout both seasons.

Season 1 – The Beginning of an Unusual Romance

The first season introduces viewers to Chai Xiaoqi’s arrival on Earth and her unexpected meeting with Fang Leng. It establishes the characters, their personalities, and the unusual circumstances that bring them together.

Across 28 episodes, the story develops through funny misunderstandings, romantic situations, and the challenges of living in an unfamiliar world. Chai Xiaoqi learns more about human relationships, while Fang Leng gradually begins to understand the mysterious girl who has entered his life.

The first season balances comedy and romance with a light science-fiction concept, creating a distinctive atmosphere compared with conventional romantic dramas.

Season 2 – More Romance and New Challenges

The second season continues the relationship between Chai Xiaoqi and Fang Leng. Although their love story appears to be moving towards a happy future, unexpected events create fresh obstacles.

Chai Xiaoqi’s home planet becomes involved in their relationship, and new characters introduce additional complications. The couple must face misunderstandings and difficult circumstances while trying to protect their connection.

Season 2 contains another 30 episodes and expands the fantasy elements introduced in the original story. It also gives viewers more time with familiar characters and brings the central romance towards a conclusion.

Direction, Production and Music

My Girlfriend Is an Alien was directed by Deng Ke and Gao Cong Kai, with Dong Ke and Chen Jing among the screenwriters. The production brings together romantic comedy, science-fiction ideas, and fantasy storytelling in a colourful television format.

Tencent Penguin Pictures is associated with the production, and Tencent Video served as the original broadcasting platform. The series was filmed in Shenzhen, China.

Its visual presentation supports the contrast between everyday human life and Chai Xiaoqi’s unusual alien background. The music and sound design help establish the show’s romantic atmosphere and playful comedy.

Why Watch My Girlfriend Is an Alien?

The performances of Wan Peng and Bie Thassapak Hsu are central to its appeal. Their characters have very different personalities, and the contrast creates many entertaining interactions.

Another reason to explore the series is its two-season structure. The first season introduces the relationship and establishes the fantasy world, while the second season continues the story and develops the characters further.
