Over Your Dead Body (2026) is a high-octane dark comedy action-thriller directed by Jorma Taccone (MacGruber, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping). Written by Nick Ball and John Niven, the film serves as the English-language remake of Tommy Wirkola’s 2021 Norwegian cult hit The Trip (I onda dager).
Produced by 87North (the stunt-focused action powerhouse behind Bullet Train and Violent Night) alongside XYZ Films, the movie blends gruesome home-invasion action with lethal marital squabbles. It stars Jason Segel (Shrinking, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Scream VI) as a dysfunctional, toxic couple whose secret attempts to murder each other get derailed by unexpected cabin crashers.

Dan (Jason Segel) and Lisa (Samara Weaving) are trapped in an uninspired, spite-filled marriage. To break the deadlock, they travel to an isolated, rustic cabin in the Finnish wilderness, ostensibly for a quiet romantic reset. However, both have secretly brought lethal weapons and improvised murder traps to finish off the other spouse once and for all.
Before Dan or Lisa can complete their assassination plots, three escaped prison inmates—led by Pete (Timothy Olyphant)—break into the cabin attic to hide out from a regional manhunt. The invaders take the couple hostage, interrupting their carefully planned traps. Realizing their survival depends on combined tactical strength, Dan and Lisa agree to an uneasy temporary ceasefire. Using the very weapons and home-hazard traps they engineered for each other, the couple unleashes a wave of improvised, bloody violence against the intruders.
After a brutal third-act showdown involving lawnmowers, boat engines, and close-quarters combat, Dan and Lisa successfully eradicate the home invaders. Through the shared adrenaline of fighting off a common enemy, the couple rediscovers their marital spark. Rather than turning their weapons back on each other, they collect the stolen cash carried by the convicts and dispose of the evidence. The film ends with Dan and Lisa driving away from the destroyed cabin with a renewed romantic connection and a fortune in untraceable cash.
Unmatched Domestic Chemistry: Segel and Weaving deliver an incredible balance of sharp, passive-aggressive domestic bickering and brutal, physical action performance.
87North’s Stunt Excellence: Featuring inventive visual set pieces, the action relies heavily on practical stunts, slapstick violence, and gory home-defense combat.
Black Comedy Execution: Director Jorma Taccone combines dark humor with fast-paced thriller elements to keep audiences guessing until the final frame.
